I ran against Kurt’s really cool EMPI pimped oldschool looker at DDD8 … after three years of non track experience, a 15.002 was enough for me ! Alltough Kurt’s wheels are much lighter (and the real thing) he managed to get a quick 16 with his 1776 that kinda surprised me when the lights turned green. Guess Kurt was practising all year long at the traffic lights 😉  

besides of the creme de la creme of aircooled machinery, there were some funky “normal” cars at the track also. forgive me my obsession with the VOLVO 850 T5 estate line, but having some fond memories of this car with his 240hp fed front transmission in an era where there weren’t any radar poles i was obliged to inspect this green 850TR … look at the license plate … Turbo R T5 850

this alpina remembered me of a friend who wanted to race another guy at the traffic lights. i sat next to him when lights turned green and he took off … backwards, since the shifting pattern in his really low mileage 323 was really strange (backwards was left -front)

Anyone knowing me, knows i am a sucker for the AMG lines of Mercedes. These “too fast cars” really need a light foot to be driven within legal circumstances. This Mercedes got spanked by volkswagens and other machinery all day long … he should consider trading his car in for the 6.2 model 🙂 the 6.2 evolution really is an engine with a HOT ROD feeling.

Guardian dog Ratchie keep on watching that no one dares to look at the sierra gelb bus. Soon the cars go in hibernation … some small tweaking, engine maintenance are still on the programme, and then it’s time for the car covers !

the Niagara blue bus got decorated for a wedding … the bride and groom were 60ies lovers ! The bus got cast for a picture shoot with the bride and groom …

One week since DDD8 … time flies by ! I was really happy and stunned to see that much friends and fellow airheads … thank you for supporting the DDDay and coming over to our pure racing event.

Since last weekend we are a little bit more sure that the event can be on the Bitburg airstrip. Lots of rumours and even statements came upon us, even from the 1on 1 motorsports team: the airport is sold and DDD8 could have been the last event.

We now know that it is more likely that we still can have the track for some years … even now the airport is sold, it doesn’t mean we won’t have the strip in some years to come … So keep all our fingers crossed and let us send some positive vibes to the drag racing gods, so we can still have the DDD event in Bitburg !

I’m counting down the days (like many of us airheads as i suppose) to the probably last das drag day … the 8th edition might indeed be the last on the track of Bitburg, … so i guess it’s time to get from behind your PC, get into your garage, and get that firebreathing aircooled car ready for 18 and 19th of september.
