two tone

Did you ever see a car with a black or a white roof ? Did you tought it was not original ? WRONG! you could order your car as a two tone: you could go for a pearl white , or a black roof. (pearl white L87 and black L41). Hereby i let you see a picture that shows you the exact way of taping they used on the rear post, in the Wolfsburg factory.

casino de monaco 1500 S royale !

Yes, this is a ROYAL Type three variant 1500 S! The car once belonged to SAS Prince rainier de MONACO! it is now in the hands of a Type three enthousiast. I think he bought the car without an engine, or managed to blow the engine himself. It now sports a mildly tuned 1641cc engine if i remember everything well ??? … The two tone paint was original.

Fiat ?

What the f*ck have Fiats in common with Type 3s ? Well, first of all, these are Abarths ! Type threes have not much (or nothing, i hope) in common with Fiats, but Abarth made a very sexy “auspuff” for the VW1500S. they were the ultimate tuning stuff in the sixties. Even my dad knew this abarth when i was telling him about the Abarth i have now in my garage… and yes, i will show you a pic of it later

one of the first ?….

And this is how the VW 1500 was introduced in 1961 in Frankfurt. you can clearly see a Squareback, a Notchback and a Cabriolet. yep, the infamous cabriolet type three. only a hand full of these were made, as prototypes.( and some of them even do still exist!) everything was okay to launch the cabriolet, folders, brochures, pictures, etc… and then, suddenly, they decided not to do it. Off course all these models are not S models, but they are referred to as N models.
